One thing people in relationships often do well is watch movies or shows together. In future articles, I will discuss what to do when your significant other watches an episode ahead of you on a show you two are watching together. Today, however the conversation is more around good movies to watch as a couple.
1. 50 First Dates (2004)
If you have not seen it, this movie focuses on Adam Sandler’s character finding ways to have his girlfriend (Drew Barrymore) fall in love with him every day. I enjoy the thought that as a couple we are never “stuck together” so if we want to make our relationship work we have to continuously fall in love with each other.
2. Star Wars Episode IV (1977)
You are probably thinking why this movie made the list and the answer is very simple. With many couples that I work with there is often one person in the relationship who enjoys watching Star Wars movies, and another is dislikes Star Wars movies. So, go ahead and watch this movie with your partner to help them understand that you care about them and their movie choices.
3. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
This is an awesome movie with Kate Winslet and Jim Carey where they fall deeply in love but have difficulties through their relationship. So much, that they will do anything to forget the relationship they have and move forward with their lives as if they never met. They find moving on more difficult than they suspected.
4. Silver Lining Playbook (2013)
Ok, this movie has it all. Great actors with Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, love story, football, plot twist, and did I mention football? This is a great movie that hits on all aspects of relationships with regards to accepting yourself and your partner as they are, and not as you want to build them up to be.
5. Her (2013)
While this movie does not feature a typical relationship it does focus on the love that Joaquin Phoenix’s character begins to feel for an artificial being and that process. This movie brings about great conversation with regards to what love is and how it is felt.
